Books and such

I launched my first self-published book, Haunt My Heart, on January 5.

I had a little launch party at Hebrew’s Coffee in Springfield simultaneously with my online Facebook party.

It was a blast! Hectic but fun.

I even got to enjoy a delicious coffee treat.

Sarah Knight has a job she’s good at, a quirky BFF, and a boyfriend who’s bad for her. When Sarah unearths a Civil War artifact on a ghost hunt at Chatham Manor, she brings home more than a souvenir

Lieutenant James “Tanner” Dawson fought for the Union, working as a supernatural liaison for his Major General in a secret Masonic offset called the Brothers of Peril. When he’s hexed by a witch, he learns the only way to save his men is to die himself. But death is not the end. Awakening 150 years later, he knows if he wants to be corporeal again, he has to find true love to break the hex—a task no easier in 21st century than it was in the 19th.

There’s so much more on the horizon and some really big news regarding the Reaping Series I’ll share just as soon as things are finally firmed up. I’ve been sitting on that news since Sept. 29.

I was pretty excited 😀

Yeah, I’m not really that patient but I can’t share it yet.

Trust me though. It will be good news.

Zombie Walk 2014

IMG_7119 (768x1024)

A couple of weekends ago, I participated in the Zombie Walk Lebanon 2014. This was the 5th annual, but the first for me. The theme was 50’s Sock Hop and there was a dance afterward. Clearly I didn’t follow the theme nor did I attend the zombie dance, but the walk was awesome!???????? SONY DSC

???????? IMG_7165 (1010x1024)
And here is some of my best shambling in action!

Want to walk? The next walk is July 18, 2015 and the theme is Hollywood. Like their page at Zombie Walk Lebanon so you don’t miss out.

Know what else you won’t want to miss? Reap & Repent.

Reap & Repent blurb

Reap & Repent final revised (647x1024)They see death. Can they share a life?

Ruth Scott can read the energy of every person she meets. Then she meets Deacon Walker. She can see his ice-blue eyes, his black hair, and his gorgeous face. But this beautiful stranger has no aura.

Deacon is just as unsettled by Ruth—and, having spent more than two hundred years ushering souls to Purgatory, Deacon is seldom shocked by anything. As he helps Ruth to understand her true nature, she awakens desires that he decided long ago a Reaper can’t afford.

A demon invasion forces Deacon to confront the darkness in his own past even as he fights to save the human souls he’s charged to protect. When he’s taken captive, his first concern is for Ruth. But Ruth just might be able to save herself—and the Reaper she can’t live without—if she can learn to wield her newfound powers.

Firecracker Float

Two days and twenty river miles. Great kayaking on the Eleven Point. Hardly any boats on the water even though it was July 4th weekend.

A Medley Mashup of June Highlights

After vacation, June just flew by. I know we did more than this, but here are the highlights.

IMG_6842 (800x600)

Bryon helped Grace build her very own flower bed. Sorry about the thumb.

IMG_6882 (800x600)

Niangua baseball.

IMG_6883 (600x800)

Grace got to go to Drury University’s Summer Quest program and this year she got into the vet camp. She loved it. They got to visit Grant Avenue Pet Hospital.

IMG_6884 (600x800)

On the last day of vet camp, the attendees got to bring a pet. Grace wanted to bring Belle, our chocolate lab, but I said, NO WAY. Belle’s a maniac. Rosie has no idea what a leash is and neither of the cats are travel friendly. That left Rex the guinea pig. Rex was a big hit!

IMG_6886 (800x600)

Grace is in the pool every chance she gets, which means Bryon and I have to be out there too. Bryon loves swimming with her. I love sitting on the deck reading a book…or trying to read a book. Here’s one example of how it goes.

Grace: How will you know if I’m drowning if you’re reading a book?
Me: You’ll stop talking for at least thirty seconds, which will alert me that something is terribly wrong.

IMG_6887 (800x600)

I got to see Randall Shreve and the Sideshow downtown.

And Bryon and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary.

Reap & Repent final revised (647x1024) (404x640)

Oh, and my first novel, Reap & Repent released as a single title. There was that 😀

My Harlequin E Urban Fantasy Romance is PUBLISHED!

PNRUF Box Set 3D

Welcome to the world, Reap & Repent.

This was a big week for me. Three years after I wrote the first words, Reap & Repent is now out in the world, I thought I’d share some of the rules of my reaper world. If you’d like to read more, visit my author blog at . Reap & Repent released Monday in a Harlequin E Urban Fantasy & Paranormal Romance box set with three other authors at a great value. It will release as a single title in June. Enjoy!

Reaper Rules: The Basics

How will you know if you meet a reaper? Two ways. One you’re dead already and it will become obvious rather quickly or two…you’ll never know. Reapers blend into the background. You may have already crossed paths with one. If you did, and you’re reading this now (which means you are NOT dead), you’ll never remember him.

You’ve probably heard the stories of the “mysterious angel” who showed up at the scene of an accident and lifted the car off a child, pulled a driver to safety, saved a drowning person, _____________ (fill in the blank), and then disappeared. No one got a description. No one took a photo. No one remembers clearly what the helpful stranger actually looked like.

There’s a good chance they met a reaper on his way to or from collecting a soul.

There are two rules of survival as a reaper:

  1. Keep your energy.
  2. Keep your head.

Everything else is survivable, but it also means that even reapers aren’t immortal. They can live for a long time but usually flame out after a couple of centuries. Ferrying the dead is a soul-sucking job (pun intended).

Reaping is a full-time proposition with a human population over seven billion. And that doesn’t even count all of the other creatures with souls that need reapers. Yeah, there are reapers for every creature with a soul. And they all meet in one place. Purgatory.

While they might not all get along topside, Purgatory is supernatural Switzerland. Forced détente. Conflict will get you smited lickedy-split.

And no one enjoys a smiting.

Want to read more? Reap & Repent, from Harlequin E, now available at all e-book retailers.

Thank you for your support. I hope you enjoy my world and reapers.

Book Release Celebration Dinner

PNRUF Box Set 3D (1024x1024)

January was a big month for me and my writing.

One year ago THIS DAY I got THE CALL from Harlequin. You can read about it here.

I was thrilled to finally see my book cover too, even though it’s not quite right yet. My heroine is a brunette. Supposedly, that’s getting fixed but not before it releases in the box set on March 3. I should have a brunette by the single title release on June 2. Otherwise, it’s awesome!

Reap & Repent (647x1024)

Bryon texted Friday afternoon to say he was fixing me a four-course Italian celebration dinner and formal dress was required.

When I got home, the house smelled WONDERFUL and Grace was all dressed up and ready to attend. I changed clothes as requested, and while Bryon worked on the meal, I sat at the bar and surfed on my laptop.

IMG_5140 (1024x768)

On a whim I pulled up Amazon and typed my name into the browser and THIS popped up!

Amazon Repent box set

I had no idea the links were LIVE and must have only been live for a few hours. I jumped to iTunes, Kobo, Barnes & Noble too and sure enough, there it was. My book in a box set and ready for pre-order. Even seeing it with my own eyes, it was still hard to believe.

You can imagine the happy dance around the kitchen. High on my discovery, Bryon served the first course a yummy beef and capers crostini. He even pulled out my great, grandmother’s China which I had never used.

IMG_5142 (768x1024)

Hot on the heels of the first course came these amazing meatballs with a red sauce. Let’s just call them AMAZEBALLS from now on, shall we?

IMG_5143 (1024x768)

The main course was Marsala Cream Beef Tips with Wild Mushroom Risotto. Fantastico!

IMG_5144 (1024x768)

And the pièce de ré·sis·tance was dessert. This Blackberry Panna Cotta was to die for!

IMG_5146 (768x1024)

Bryon found all of the recipes in 417 Magazine and if you click on the links above you can have the recipes too. He spent all day grocery shopping, and then cooking for me. What an awesome celebration.

IMG_5145 (768x1024)

While you can’t sample the meal…you can still be a part of the celebration.

PRE-ORDER now for the best price on Reap & Repent AND receive three other great urban fantasy/paranormal romance stories. It will magically appear on your e-reader March 3.

The Mystery Hour

IMG_4933 (1024x768)

I finally got Bryon to go with me to see the live taping of my friend Jeff Houghton’s The Mystery Hour in Springfield. Jeff has a local late-night talk show which he tapes the first Friday of each month in the beautiful and historic Gilloiz Theater, downtown Springfield. The show airs on the local FOX affiliate KRBK.

It’s such a fun show. You just never know what’s going to happen. Like getting a free cupcake. How random is that? I chose red velvet.

IMG_4936 (1024x595)

Jeff tapes three, half-hour shows in a row. He has an interview guest and musical guest for each show. This night, the musical guest was Randall Shreve and The Sideshow whom I’d never heard of. Boy, were we entertained!

IMG_4935 (655x1024)

I fell in love with these guys and was lucky enough to get a pic with Randall. I bought their cd, The Jester (download here) and have been wearing it out on my long drives for the day job. I love the haunted carnival lyrics and theme and the use of calliope music is perfect!

IMG_4945 (1024x768)

If you are anywhere close to Springfield the first Friday of the each month, it’s definitely worth stopping by to see. $5 admission, a cool TV taping of a variety type talk show, and they serve BOOZE. What more could you ask for?

IMG_4934 (515x515)

Well, maybe Cone Chips. You could ask for Cone Chips.
